What to expect at Valley of Peace

What’s a service like? Is there a dress code? Is anybody welcome?

Music at Valley of Peace ranges from traditional hymns to contemporary praise.

Visitors to Valley of Peace Lutheran Church should expect a genuine welcome to a small congregation of people who love Jesus Christ. From a warm handshake at the door to the closing benediction you will find the worship service Christ-focused and Bible-based. Holy Communion is celebrated twice a month on the first and third Sunday.

Lutheran churches vary in the degree of formality and use of liturgy. Valley of Peace tends toward the informal side, while still using the traditional confession, Apostles Creed, Lord’s Prayer, sermon and benediction. The service includes congregational singing, with music ranging from traditional hymns with keyboard accompaniment to contemporary praise songs with either keyboard or guitar.

Dress is informal. Business casual is a good way to describe how most dress for worship. There will be few coats and ties. However, shorts and recreational clothes are not out of line if you choose to come to service before or after a bike ride or cross-country ski adventure.

Following the service, which lasts about one hour, you will be invited to share coffee, tea and a light snack in the kitchen. This informal time is designed to allow us to get to know you and each other better. Once a month the congregation shares in a potluck meal after service. All are invited to stay and join whether or not you have brought food.

Our Response to COVID-19

Our service has changed somewhat during the COVID-19 pandemic. You are asked to wear a face mask and social distance while in the building. Hand sanitizer and masks are provided. Our service is recorded so that people at risk for COVID may worship from home. An archive of services is provided on this website.

Bible Study

Several opportunities for Bible Study are provided, including the hour before worship service, beginning at 9 a.m., and men’s and women’s Bible studies held mid-week. These gatherings are informal, with plenty of opportunities for questions and discussion.
